Selkirk 'A' 100, Greenock Wanderers 2nds 0

Ton-up 'A' team enjoy life in the fast lane

IN what is thought to be a record score by a Selkirk team, the Souters' 'A' side wiped the floor with a young, inexperienced Greenock Wanderers 2nd XV at Philiphaugh on Saturday.

Scoring 16 tries without reply, the home players produced champagne rugby over the 80 minutes, evergreen full-back Michael Jaffray showing he has lost none of his fizz by notching a hat-trick of touchdowns. The pick of the bunch was a solo effort by the fire-fighter, who burst into the line and waltzed past three defenders before scoring in a blaze of glory.

Player coach Bryan Hoggan returned to action for the first time since sustaining a leg injury against Hawick 2nds, and felt no ill-effects after his foray from the replacements' bench.

First team prop Steven Renwick showed his versatility by scoring a couple of tries from the No. 8 position, while Craig Hunter also notched a brace to take his season's tally to five.

Other tries were scored by: Fraser Jack, Gavin Craig, Gordon Patterson, newcomer Donald Hendrie (2), Michael McVie (2), Lindsay Carrick and Martin Rodgerson.

Gary Lyall added 10 conversions, pushing his personal points tally for the campaign to 54 from five matches.
