Selkirk 'A' clinch runners-up spot with powerful display

SELKIRK made sure of finishing in second spot in the Roadhead Farm Feeds Border Championship with a thumping victory over Kelso 2nds at Philiphaugh on Saturday. The Souters crossed for no fewer than 11 tries, with fly-half Guy Blair amassing a personal haul of 25 points.

An early kick-off allowed Selkirk's players to watch the 1st XV's crunch Prem. 2 fixture against Gala, with Fraser Jack's men turning in a morale-boosting performance in front of an appreciative crowd on the back pitch.

Tries for the home side flowed fast and furious as the Tweedsiders struggled to contain their quicker opponents. Ahead 43-0 at the interval, there was no let-up for the visitors after the break, as Selkirk continue to rack up the points.

Try scorers for the Souters were Tom Walling, John Everitt (2), Guy Blair (2), Jamie Lyall (2), Richard Cook, Ross Nixon, Fraser Jack and Jimmy Stephens. Blair also kicked six conversions and landed a late drop-goal for good measure.

The match marked the return to action of hooker Ian Walling, sidelined by a hand injury for the past six weeks, and to the coaches' satisfaction the Over Whitlaw farmer came through without showing any ill-effects.
