Another strong showing by Selkirk
'A' XV keeps team at top of league table
- excellent display by Selkirk wing.
A HAT-TRICK of tries by teenage wing Darren Clapperton helped Selkirk 'A' record a bonus point win against Kelso
'A' in Saturday's Border Farm Supplies Championship match at Croft Park. The victory keeps Selkirk at the top of
the league table.
The visitors got off to a good start when Clapperton scored his first try in the fourth minute, taking the ball
on the 10-metre line and beating three home defenders before touching down. Rory Banks then kicked a penalty, before
Clapperton scored his second try 15 minutes before halftime, which Banks converted.
Selkirk hooker Peter Forrest received a yellow card midway through the half, after the referee had issued a general
warning to both teams. Half time score Kelso 0, Selkirk 15
The second half started well for Selkirk, with Rory Banks making an interception on the halfway line to run in
between the posts and then converting his own try. Darren Clapperton then completed his hat-trick with another
well taken score, once again beating several defenders on his way to the line. Rory Banks converted.
Kelso hit back on the hour mark when Andrew Haig scored between the posts, with the replacement stand-off converting.
Shortly afterwards the referee yellow-carded a second Selkirk player, Ray Price, after another team warning.
The final period of the game was a frantic affair, with Kelso's blindside flanker being yellow-carded before their
number 19 was shown the red card after another set-to. Final score: Kelso 'A' 7, Selkirk 'A' 29.
