Selkirk 17, Heriot's 43

SELKIRK were handed a lifeline despite this defeat on Saturday at Philiphaugh. Next in line remains a challenge for a third season in Premiership 1, but this time against the top four in Premiership 2 at the end of the season. They will be in a permutation of Edinburgh Accies, Gala, Peebles and Aberdeen Grammar, Falkirk, Jed-Forest and Hillhead/Jordanhill.
"This is a second chance and the games against Glasgow Hawks and Hawick are 'pre-season'", said Rugby Director Dennis Henderson.
"I think I will go over the watch Gala (against Kirkcaldy) this Saturday and see what the standard is there."
The scoreline on Saturday flattered Heriot's - even coach Bob McKillop agreed. But again bulk was the winner as Selkirk fell away in the final 20 minutes. Fraser Harkness, Ryan Godsmark and Darren Clapperton scored the tries for Selkirk with David Cassidy converting one. Coach Graham Marshall added: "What matters now is performance and building confidence."
