SELKIRK TRAVELLED TO HAMILTON EXPECTING A HARD GAME AND THEY WERE NOT DISAPPOINTED. HAMILTON STARTED STRONGLY AND WITHIN THREE MINUTES SCORED AN UNCONVERTED TRY. THIS STUNG THE YOUNG SELKIRK SIDE AND AFTER SOME EXERTED PRESSURE WERE AWARDED A PENALTY UNDER THE POSTS WHICH WAS CONVERTED BY DARREN SCOTT. THIS SEEMED TO SETTLE THE SELKIRK SIDE AND PLAYING IN TO A STRONG WIND THEY PLAYED SOME EXCELLENT RUGBY. AFTER SOME TYPICAL HANDLING AND CONTINUITY PLAY ALAN TOUGH SCORED A FINE TEAM TRY IN THE CORNER. SCOTT FAILED WITH HIS CONVERSION ATTEMPT.

WITH THE WIND AT THEIR BACKS SELKIRK EXERTED SO MUCH PRESSURE ON HAMILTON THAT THEY COULD NOT GET IN TO THE SELKIRK HALF. SELKIRK SCORED A FURTHER THREE TRIES THROUGH, ALLY LYALL, DARREN SCOTT AND DEBUTANT JOHN GRAHAM. SCOTT CONVERTED ALL THREE TRIES TAKING HIS PERSONAL TALLY TO 21 POINTS AND EARNING HIM THE MAN OF THE MATCH AWARD.
