STORMERS DOWN BUT NOT OUT, AS
KELSO 2nds PROVE TOO STRONG
FOR the second week in a row, Stormers found themselves
playing against team several levels above them, with visitors Kelso 2nds a well drilled side who arrived at Philiphaugh
on Saturday hunting for maximum points in their Border Cup campaign.
Selkirk found themselves on the back foot almost from the kick-off. After conceding an early try, skipper Fraser
Jack and pack leader Calvin Henderson rallied the home troops - the grit and determination shown against Jed last
Saturday again resurfacing. Some excellent work at the breakdown kept the visitors’ tally to three tries (two converted)
at the break.
The first 20 minutes of the second half was Stormers’ finest period. Chris Shand kicked to telling effect while
Ryan Henderson was full of running, helped by solid contributions from forwards Kieran Reid and Richard Cook.
Stormers came very close to scoring, but Kelso’s strength and fitness told in the end and the Tweedsiders ran in
a further four tries to settle the issue. Nevertheless Stormers’ players could walk off the pitch with heads held
