INJURY-HIT SELKIRK 'A' PUT UP A BRAVE SHOW AGAINST HIGH-FLYING HERIOT'S FP AT GOLDENACRE

Jamie Turnbull - battled
hard for Selkirk.

WITH no fewer than seven regulars missing from their starting line-up, it was never going to be easy for Selkirk 'A' to make an impression against RBS Reserve League National 1 leaders Heriot's FP 2nds at Goldenacre on Saturday.
And the visitors' cause wasn't helped when their skipper John Everitt failed a fitness test on his injured leg in the warm-up and took no part in the match. "It was a tough afternoon for the boys," backs coach Fraser Jack admitted after the game, "but I was delighted by their commitment and never-say-die attitude.
"They never once let their heads drop during the full 80 minutes, and everyone played out of their skins. You can't ask for more than that, and the boys who were drafted into the squad as late replacements all pulled their weight."
Special mentions went to forwards Sean Nixon, Matt Robertson, Jamie Turnbull and Calvin Henderson, while in the threequarters the performances of Mikey Davies, Alistair Lyall and Harry Aynsley all drew praise.
Another plus point for Selkirk was the first appearance in the side this season of Gavin Henderson, while Ruairi Wilson and Nik Wielbo both made successful comebacks after injury lay-offs.
Heriot's built up a 22-0 lead in the first half, and despite dominating territory and possession after the break, found Selkirk's players in no mood to let the floodgates open.
