BOTH TEAMS FORCED TO BATTLE ELEMENTS

SELKIRK ‘A’ travelled to Netherdale on a cold,
miserable and very wet Saturday, coming away with a defeat after the RBS Reserve League National 1 fixture was
stopped on the hour-mark because of the dire conditions to give Gala the victory and the league points.
It was Selkirk who started the stronger of the two teams, taking an early lead thanks to a penalty from the boot
of scrum-half Michael McVie. However, five minutes later the Maroons scored the first of their three tries,
and at the interval the halftime score stood at Gala ‘A’ 14, Selkirk ‘A’ 3.
In the second half Gala made the stronger start and soon scored another try when their backs ran hard to breach
the visitors’ defence. Shortly after this the game was abandoned because of the deteriorating weather conditions.
One plus-point of the fixture for Selkirk was the return of wing Darren Clapperton to action, following a lengthy
