ON a glorious autumn afternoon on the main pitch, Selkirk Stormers continued their fine run of form with a convincing victory over Jed-Forest 2nds in Saturday’s friendly fixture. The Philiphaugh team has now won all of its last six games.

The unbeaten RBS Reserve League East 2 leaders showed they meant business right from the start, scoring three tries inside the first 10 minutes through Callum McEwan, Tom Walling and Ben Purves, with Craig MacDougall adding a conversion.

However this purple patch didn’t last long and a well-drilled Jed side rallied to put Stormers under pressure for the remainder of the first half, scoring two tries to make the interval score 17-12 in the home team’s favour.

Taking the field for the second half with some words of wisdom ringing in their ears from coach Brian Cassidy, Stormers steadily took the game out of Jed's control, scoring a further five tries through McEwan, John Graham, Craig, MacDougall and a further two by Ben Purves.

This takes Ben Purves’ try tally for the season to 18, which must surely stake his claim for progressing through the Philiphaugh ranks. With Purves converting four of these tries, the final score was 50 -12. Both teams then retired to the George Downie Bar to take in the remainder of the Scotland v Japan game over a few well earned beers.
