WITH former 1st XV head coach Brian Cassidy taking over the coaching reins for the Stormers this season, the players responded in great style by notching an impressive victory over Jed-Forest 2nds in Saturday’s friendly at Philiphaugh.
Stormers also have a new captain in former 1st XV skipper Guy Blair, who said after the match that all of the Stormers players had stepped up to the mark. “We’ve a good mix of youth and experience, and it certainly augurs well for the future. Raising a team became a real issue last season, but hopefully this won’t be such a problem now.”
Blair kicked two first half penalties, making the half-time score 7-6 to Jed. Although the visitors scored another try after the break, a touchdown from Robert Cook, converted by Blair, was enough to see the Stormers home.
In a good all-round display, special mention goes to brothers Scott and Willie McClymont for an outstanding afternoon’s work.
