STORMERS PUT UP BRAVE FIGHT,
BUT FORCED TO GIVE SECOND BEST TO BIG PEEBLES SIDE
READY TO ROLL. The Selkirk
Stormers players line up just before kicking off against Peebles 2nds at Philiphaugh on Saturday. Back row – Craig

THE Stormers lost their unbeaten record to a big,
physical Peebles 2nds team in Saturday’s friendly at Philiphaugh. Once again the home players’ lack of fitness
in the closing stages of the contest proved a significant factor, and coach Brian Cassidy has again urged all his
charges to get down to training twice this week.
Ahead 12-0 midway through the first half, Stormers began to be put under increasing pressure by the visitors in
set piece play, with Peebles gradually overhauling the home side’s total, although there was no lack of effort
from any of the Selkirk players.
A late scoring burst by Peebles in the second half proved too much for the Stormers to counter, who by that time
were down to 14 men following Rob Kelly’s withdrawal to meet work commitments, and Callum McColm’s sidelining because
Stormers’ tries came from wingers Scott McClymont and Ben Purves (both of whom had fine games), while Daniel Pringle
notched his team’s third touchdown. McColm added a conversion.
STORMERS – C. McColm, S. McClymont, G. Lyall, C. Grieve, B. Purves, D. Pringle, C. Monks, C. Fairbairn,
C. Heatlie, J. Stephen, C. Turnbull, A. Nichol, W. McClymont, J. Lunt, R. Cook. Replacement: R. Kelly.
Referee – Craig Hunter (Peebles).
