MAKESHIFT STORMERS OUTGUNNED BY VILLAGERS

Callum Turnbull – from show time to scrum-down time!

THE Stormers ended their build-up to this weekend’s Reserve League campaign opener against Livingston 2nds with a friendly fixture against St Boswells at Jenny Moore’s Road.

Despite the scoreline, this was a dogged display by the Philiphaugh men – their job being made much harder by having so many members of the side having to play out of position.

No fewer than five former Selkirk players lined up in the St Boswells side on Saturday – Kieran and Brendon Reid, David Cassidy, Scott Rodgerson and Robert McGregor.

In the end the Stormers had to give second best to the Villagers’ well drilled side, but to their credit every Stormers player kept competing to the final whistle. Selkirk’s only try came from Ben Purves – his sixth of the season.

A special mention goes to Stormers forward Callum Turnbull who, despite Yarrow & Ettrick Show commitments, managed to hot-foot it down to Jenny Moore’s Road in time for the second half of the match, coming on as a replacement for Lindsay Carrick.

STORMERS – B. Purves, D. McKenzie, H. Aynsley, S. Bell, R. Cook, G. Blair, M. Jaffray, C. Fairbairn, C. Heatlie, J. Stephen, L. Carrick, J. Lunt, S. McClymont, W. McClymont, C. Grieve. Replacement: C. Turnbull.
