MAGNIFICENT STORMERS ON-SONG
Kieran Monks – scored
hat-trick of tries for the Stormers.
SELKIRK Stormers got their RBS Reserve League East 2 campaign off to a flying start at Myreside on Saturday, turning
in a five-star display to overwhelm a useful-looking Watsonians 3rds team.
Afterwards Stormers’ player-manager Donny Mackenzie had nothing but praise for the Philiphaugh side: “The determination
our guys showed out there was fantastic,” he said. “Their work rate remained high throughout, and I thought our
finishing was out of the top drawer.
“The boys have put down a marker, and it’s now up to everyone in the squad to make sure we maintain this level
of commitment for the rest of the league campaign. It’s a pleasure being involved with such an enthusiastic bunch
A special mention goes to prop Alex Hain and wing Gavin Lindsay, both of whom made light of their limited rugby
experience to turn in wholehearted performances on Saturday. Up front, hooker Jimmy Stephen and flanker Scott McClymont
were in particularly fine form, while half-backs Ben Purves and Guy Blair controlled proceedings in textbook fashion.
Selkirk’s eight tries were scored by Purves (3), Kieran Monks (3), Robert Cook and John Graham. Blair added four
conversions. The halftime score was 24-10 in the Stormers’ favour.
