A SOLID first half by Selkirk ‘A’ saw the Philiphaugh side stay within touching distance of BT Reserve League National 2 frontrunners Hamilton 2nds at Laigh Bent on Saturday.

With five minutes to go to the interval the score was 19-10 in the home side’s favour, but a fourth Hamilton try right on the halftime whistle seemed to take the wind out of the visitors’ sails, and with errors beginning to creep into Selkirk’s game after the break, the result was never in doubt.

Selkirk’s two first half tries were scored by hooker Stuart Forrest, while the visitors’ try after the break came from skipper Scott McDonald following a quickly taken tap penalty on the Hamilton 22-metre line. Jack Elliot added the conversion.

Both Selkirk’s replacements were used, Jimmy Stephen replacing Kieran Thomson after 45 minutes, while Chris Sanders came on for Kyle Stillie five minutes later.

Thanks go to Callum Turnbull for filling in at lock, to Ross Purves for taking over at scrum-half and to Scott Tough for moving to stand-off. A special thank-you also goes to Bert Robertson for kindly agreeing to drive the minibus!
