Selkirk ‘A’ 22, Kelso 2nds 17
AFTER their defeat to GHA last weekend, the ‘A’
XV were striving for another win on Wednesday when they took on Kelso 2nds in their first Cup fixture.
It wasn’t a good start for the young Souters, as they conceded a try in the first minute of the match, after a
good run from the Kelso winger. There was no time for the ‘A’ XV to recover from this though as Kelso’s other winger
ran in over the line just minutes later, leaving the players and their coaches wondering what was going on.
The squad seemed to wake up after this though, holding off the opposition’s attacks for most of the half until
Kelso managed to burst through to score again, despite a number of bodies hurling themselves on the scorer.
Selkirk were determined not to leave their first half pointless though, as they counter-attacked from a Kelso clearance,
giving it to Callum McEwan, who broke through the opposition’s defence to touch down between the posts right on
the 40th minute, leaving Frazer Anderson to convert, making the half time score 7-17.
The second half was more successful for the ‘A’ XV, as Bruce Riddell scored just after half time, and super-sub
Scott Marshall came off the bench to score two unconverted tries to win it for the home team with the score at
full time being 22-17 to the Souters.
Selkirk ‘A’ take on Cartha QP at Philiphaugh this Saturday, October 3rd (3pm kick-off).
