SELKIRK 'A' XV defied
the odds on Saturday to beat a Stewart's/Melville side which a number of people had predicted would win. This game
also saw the return of Andrew Renwick, who started as a prop.
Stew/Mel had looked a strong side throughout most of last year, and looked to be just as good for this season,
after winger Jack Savage scored within 15 minutes. However, the 'A' XV fought back, and scored two tries within
10 minutes, through wingers Lewis Martin and Frazer Anderson; his third try in three matches. Rory Banks converted
both of these.
Selkirk's Bruce Riddell touched the ball down in the 38th minute, to make it Selkirk 19, Stew/Mel 7 going into
A penalty from Banks just after half time increased their lead even more, and although Stew/Mel flanker Andrew
Wilson scored two tries within a few minutes, Selkirk hung on to come out victorious.
The 'A' XV will be hoping for another win next week away against Dundee Titans at Mayfield.
