Hawick 38, Selkirk 29
Selkirk were the visitors at Mansfield Park on Saturday
in the BT Cup on Saturday. The home team were one of their poorest runs of form for many a year, however under
new coach George Graham they had shown a market improvement against top sides Melrose and Ayr.
Selkirk got off to a great start when on the five min mark McEwan raced under the posts after a break by MacKay,
converted by Welsh . The game was being played at a great pace and the next to score wa Hawick ,when Grahem squeezed
over from a maul near the Selkirk line, Weir converted.
The National 1 Club were next to score when Gavin Craig , making his first start of the season, scored after some
great inter play between forwards and backs ,Welsh missing the conversion.
Hawick hit back with a penalty kick by Weir after a ruck infringement by the Selkirk forwards, however Josh Welsh
equalised in a similar fashion after Hawick strayed off side. Just on half time Andrew Renwick scored a try to
even up the scores.
Half time score Hawick 15. Selkirk 15.
The second half started with both sides willing to attack from all areas of the field with the score changing hands
twice. First Hawick through Captain McNeil again after some good mauling by the home forwards, then Selkirk when
Wagman crossed, with a Hawick player on his back after some great play by Selkirk breaking through the home back
line, Welsh converted.Hawick were next on the score sheet when Shawn Muir scored after yet another maul close to
the Selkirk line. The game swung back towards Selkirk when Welsh was on hand to finish off a break from well within
their own, scoring under the posts for an easy conversion. But Hawick had the final say scoring in extra time to
seal a hard fought game
Full time score Hawick 38. Selkirk 29.
Best for Selkirk Man of the Match Josh MacKay, Luke Pettie, Scott Hendrie and Josh Welsh .
