|Selkirk travelled the in Inverlieth on Saturday to
play a Stewarts Melville side coming into the game on a high after two successive wins including a great comeback
victory against our old Border rivals Gala at Nehterdale..
Selkirk got off to a great start when after only a minute of play Clinton Wagman scored wide out after some good
handling by the back line, Rory Banks missed the touchline conversion.
The first half progressed with both teams trying to play open rugby. Play went back and forth with neither side
getting the upper hand. However after 20 minuted for the home team got on the score sheet, when after a period of
sustained pressure in the Souters 22 the home pack took charge and after a series of rolling mauls they scored
two tries both by their captain Howie, one converted by Roddick.
Half time score Stewart's/Melville 12. Selkirk 5.
The second half started with the visitors starting to get the upper hand. The Selkirk forwards were starting to
get the edge and after some hard work by the pack to take the game up to the home try line scrum half Mikey Davis
nipped over for his first try of the season.
The home side hit back with a converted try, again their big forwards doing the damage for lock forward Stoddart
to score, Roddick converting.
The game was now starting to open up and a minute later Selkirk scored again this time Frazer Anderson crossing
in the corner after another break by man of the match Stevie Hamilton. He made inroads to the home line, allowing
the winger to dot down for another 5 points.
With the Selkirk defence on top keeping their line intact, they had a lot of the ball and used it well allowing
another two tries to finish the game. The first by through scoring machine Clinton Wagman after great play by both
forwards and backs,
The last try was scored by replacement Donald Nichol who did well to score despite the attention of two home defenders.
The more was started by full back Stevie Hamilton breaking up the middle of the park, forwards winning the break
down allowing Nichol to cross the white wash. The scoring was completed for the day with a Rory Banks conversion.
