Currie Chieftains 78 Selkirk
Selkirk A team suffered a heavy defeat after travelling
to Malleny Park with 16 players on Saturday.
With several players playing out of position including forwards Liam Cassidy at Stand off and Callum Hume at centre,
and with both coaches Jason Hendrie and Jordan McGowan, and manager Donnie MacKenzie included in the squad, this
fixture was always going to prove an uphill struggle from the start.
However the score does not truly reflect the pure guts and determination shown by those who pulled on the jerseys
to fulfill this league game, with standout performances from 1 to 16 to not only compete against a well drilled
Cheiftans pack and streamlined back division, but to provide an entertaining game with determination in abundance
from the Souters.
Down 43-0 at halftime the boys in blue, unwavering in spirit, proceeded to attack the Currie line and were awarded
a try by Jordan McGowan after almost 20 well worked phases.
The Philiphaugh players continued to throw the ball about and were unlucky not to be score further tries. Only
the resilience of a Currie backline who had all experienced first team rugby this season kept the score down.
Special mention must go to the whole team who traveled to fulfill this fixture, and played their hearts out for
the eighty minutes against the unbeaten Chieftans.
