Selkirk 'A' 3, Musselburgh 2nds
Selkirk 2nds hosted Musselburgh 2nds with probably
the most miserable weather conditions of the year so far. There really is not a great deal to report on the game,
partly due to my notepad being drookit! And partly due to the difference in the 2 sides. The game followed a similar
theme throughout, Selkirk not quite strong enough in the scrums, not quite getting to the breakdown quick enough,
not quite making the last tackle, not quite winning the set-piece. Choosing to play with the wind and rain in the
first half saw the half conclude at 3 – 17, with Selkirk's points coming from a David Cassidy penalty kick.
The second half playing into the wind and rain was always going to be a tough challenge, however Selkirk did manage
to keep it scoreless until the later stages of the half. With Musselburgh running in 2 converted tries, taking
the tally to 3 -31. With 10 minutes to go and the rain and wind the referee could see no real advantage of carrying
on as the rain and wind continued to pour and blow. The whistle was blown and the players sent to the showers to
warm up and drown their sorrows.
Never mind... there's always next week... my pad might be dry by then..
