SELKIRK ‘A’ 9, HAWICK FORCE 24
RESTRICTED to only 15 players in their match squad
by dint of having no front row cover, Selkirk ‘A’ put up a spirited performance in Saturday’s hard-fought Tennent’s
East Reserve League Division 1 fixture against Hawick Force at Philiphaugh.
Without any replacements, the home team were reduced to 13 men in the final quarter, after losing the services
of scrum-half Ryan Legge and Adam Nichol because of injury.
In the absence of injured coach Martin Murray, ex-player Ryan Clapperton and team manager Bryan Hoggan took charge
of the Selkirk ‘A’ team for this game.
“We were always going to be up against it by not having any replacements,” Darren said after the match, “but all
credit to the boys for never letting their heads drop throughout the 80 minutes.
“Hawick’s heavier pack proved a handful, even though the scrums were uncontested, but I thought the commitment
our players showed in defence was out of the top drawer.”
First half tries by Hawick’s Corey Tait and Harris Brogan, converted by Kyle Brunton, and two penalties from the
boot of Scott Clark saw the sides turn round at the interval with the visitors 14-6 ahead.
Further tries by Glen Welsh and Liam Graham gave Hawick their bonus point, with a third penalty by Clark the home
team’s only reply.
Special mentions goes to Selkirk full-back Liam Davidson, who had an outstanding match both in attack and defence,
while Scott Clark’s accurate positional kicking and Callum Turnbull’s tireless ball-carrying were also highlights.
