A GUTSY display by Selkirk ‘A’ at Netherdale wasn’t
enough to win Saturday’s Borders District Cup tie, but the visitors at least had the satisfaction of outscoring
the Maroons’ second string by two tries to one.
It was also encouraging for Selkirk’s supporters to see former 1st XV skipper Michael Jaffray take the field in
his first game since injuring his knee on September 20th. He came through the bruising encounter with no ill-effects.
Once again scrum-half Michael McVie turned in a five-star display, while guest Selkirk Youth Club players Jason
Hendrie and David Gray also showed up well.
The visitors’ tries came from (Part-time Tom Jones impressionist) Tim Cove and Marcus Barnett, with full-back David
Cassidy adding a conversion. The ‘A’ team’s next match is a friendly against Hawick 2nds at Philiphaugh on Saturday,
December 27.
