Selkirk take full points against
Selkirk took full points in their league encounter at Philiphaugh against Grangemouth but it was a close-run thing
with the visitors almost pulling off a last minute comeback to share the points.
The first half it has to be said was all Grangemouth, at least in the business of points, with Selkirk being equal
to them in all departments except getting the ball over the line.
Keith Halliday put the visitors in front in six minutes then almost half an hour later he doubled his tally before
the Grangemouth full-back ran in a try in 36 minutes and the same No. 15 crossing the Selkirk line again just on
half time to make it 0-16 as the whistle went.
The second half was eight minutes old when Grangemouth's handling became suspect and a drop on their own line gave
Jim Ross the opportunity to get a Selkirk try on the board. Gary Lyall added the conversion then added a penalty
before Darren Hulme capitalised on some good work by the Selkirk pack to add a second try which again Lyall converted.
That put Selkirk into the lead for the first time and a second penalty from Gary Lyall helped to pull the score
line further out in Selkirk's favour. In 78 minutes Lyall did again to put Selkirk in front by 23-16.
It was almost time up when Grangemouth rallied and they forced a further try but nerves this time got the better
of Halliday who had had an excellent game and the conversion shot went wide as the whistle went and Selkirk survived
to earn full league points.
