HAWICK LINDEN ………………….. 15, SELKIRK 2nds ……………………. 27

Selkirk 2nds too strong

Rugby - South District Cup
In the first five minutes of this cup tie Selkirk went ahead through Mark Easson and it was Easson's boot which served the Souters well and put them ahead by nine points to nil at half time.
Two minutes after his opening penalty he doubled his score and in 25 minutes he goaled another without reply from the home side. Selkirk were the dominant force in that first forty minutes but couldn't find their way to the Linden try line in spite of their hard work.
Hawick were no pushover and they fought their way onto the score board after the interval with a penalty before Selkirk stepped up a gear. Tim Cove found his way through the home defence to touch down for Easson to goal.
It was Hawick who proved the stronger after this and they hit back with a converted try then quickly followed that with another try in the corner, just too far out for their kicker to put them into the lead.
That man Mark Easson came to Selkirk's rescue twice in the next few minutes to add two penalty kicks to his tally and put the game almost beyond Hawick.
And in the latter stages of the game Brian Hoggan made sure when he dived over in the corner for a second Selkirk try.
The Souters are back in action in Hawick on cup business this Saturday when this time they face Hawick Harlequins with another early kick-off because of the Scotland-Italy international at Murrayfield.

PASS MASTER. Selkirk number eight Brian Hoggan manages to get his pass away to scrum-half Michael McVie, despite the close attentions of a Hawick Linden tackler.

UP FOR IT. Selkirk’s John Pretswell competes for line-out ball in the A team’s victory over Hawick Linden at the Volunteer Park on Saturday.
