Walkerburn RFC 0 Selkirk 2nd XV 36 |
AFTER fears that Walkerburn Rugby Club might not
still be in existence this season, the 'Burn showed its supporters there's life left in the old dog yet by making
Selkirk 2nds fight all the way for their 36-0 victory in Thursday night's training match at Caberston Haugh.
With ex-Selkirk supremo Bruce 'Boney' Anderson playing a pivotal role at scrum-half, Walkerburn demonstrated plenty
of spirit against their near-neighbours.
A good deal of interest centred around Selkirk's openside flanker, Matt de Franck. The former University of Western
Australia player is one of the Philiphaugh club's new signings, but so far the 20-year-old has been sidelined by
a groin strain. However, he showed enough deft touches on the night to satisfy 1st XV team manager Paul Tomlinson
that he should make a significant contribution to Selkirk's fortunes this year.
